.. doesn’t last long around here.
Adds a whole new meaning to the ten second rule.
Oh I’m sorry, you didn’t actually want to do any work today did you?
Down in Somerset today for a day of photo nerdery in the form of a days training with landscape photographer Tony Howell.
I went down with my friend Stu and we visited several spots including Burnham, Priddy (near Cheddar) and Weston and though we didn’t actually take a huge number of photos, I picked up some really useful info, and inspiration from Tony which I’m sure are going to benefit my photography a lot.
Side note: I’m still using Flickr as a general dumping ground for pics but thought I should to do something a bit more creative with some of my faves so I’m building a bit of a gallery site at www.richardolpin.co.uk
Oh yeah, side note the second! I’ve added the Lightbox script to my blog site now so clicking on any thumbnail pics should pop up a decent version.
Someone’s got such a hard life. She’ll be expecting me to peel her a grape next!
… loves her new mummy

Took a quick trip down to Severn Beach tonight to scope out some potential locations for some shots I wanted to take. Wasn’t really expecting to take anything decent as the weather wasn’t looking too good, but I’m really glad we went now as it turned out to be well worth the drive…

I love roller coasters, and so I was well chuffed that the weather held out yesterday and we managed to get in all of the big rides at Alton Towers, some twice, before lunch.
Pleasantly surprised that having got there early they let us in 30 mins early and we managed to get straight on some of the rides an hour before they were meant to be even running. This meant we also got a couple of rides on Oblivion with no queuing and could save our fast track tickets for later for ride #3.

RITA and Air were the two ‘biggies’ that we were looking forward to and they didn’t disappoint. Managed to blag a couple of goes on Rita, sat right at the front each time too
Air was awesome, you’re effectively lying face down and so from your POV it’s like your flying, except of course, having actually done a lot of that for real, it’s not
Ooh - unexpected surprise of the day, ‘Hex’. It’s not a big ride as such, and it’s easy to see how they’ve done it, but man does it fuck with the senses. Well worth queuing up for that one ![]()
Had a vague plan this afternoon to go check out Clifton in the evening for some more bridge shots.
As the evening drew in it was looking less and less likely as the weather was shite, dark clouds overhead and raining intermittently all afternoon. It would have been easy to just bail and not go but I’d arranged to meet Stu and something was niggling away to make me want to go anyway.
I’m really glad I did now as the weather held out just long enough for us to both scout some great locations and also to grab a handful of surprisingly passable shots too. It was far from ideal conditions but I was very pleasantly surprised by what turned up when I got home.
Definitely looking forward to a few more trips out like that.
